ARTifariti 2016: 10th International Art and Human Rights Meeting in Western Sahara

Baker,

Hamza,

Yasmin,

Omar or Tamer, what is the difference?

What I saw devastated me.

The force of those images hit me so hard that, in a split second, I could pretend I understand the life of these people.

Look them in the eye...

Look at their facial features...

Looking at all these people may help us take comfort before our helplessness.

Looking at such young faces that either live in sufferings or die in silence is a piece of all humanity that dies.

Whether in Iraq, Syria or Libya... it is always with the same look, a look pushed by the same human condition, is it lost or man just cannot describe it anymore? We remain indifferent.

To make of it the most sensible approach, I used pictures that have been circulating on the web and created what the Medias would call ‘a buzz’...

Believe me there are thousands of ‘buzz’ photos that will upset you.

This work in some ways denounces the hypocrisy of the audience to the media propaganda;

Violence, brutality and hatred,

Destroyed civilizations, we’re all spectators and we’re all accomplices.

Through this tribute I wanted to build a new way of looking at our own demons, measure the links between the beauty and the cruelty of reality.

The truth will eventually reveal itself to the genuine audience.
